Sunrise with flipper,Tuesday 16th Oct 2007

We got up early today to go and see the dolphins, before the coach loads of visitors arrived. When we got to the pier there was only about 5 of us. The dolphins started to swim close to shore and we watched them as they started catching fish. It was great, we also stood on the beach and they swam really close to us. After about 30minutes the coaches started to arrive and people started pushing in front of us. So we said bye to the dolphins and went back to the van. We drove back to Denham and filled with petrol and off we drove south. We stopped on the way at Eagles lookout, but the tide was out and it was not very impressive as we expected.
We then stopped at Shell beach. This is a beach with no sand, but millions and millions of small or crushed sea shells. It was really strange but really cool at the same time. The locals in the pasted used the hard formed blocks of crushed shells to build there houses and other buildings, instead of bricks.
Our next stop was at the Stromatolites, these are different sizes and shapes of what looked like rocks, but are actually life forms. They are the oldest in the world and have lived for over 3 billion years. They helped us to be here by releasing oxygen in to the atmosphere. There's a bit of education for you.
We ended up spending the night in a free rest stop area, so our first night of free camping. We were just outside the Kalbarri national park. It was really sticky tonight, so before we turned in for the night we got some water bottles and washed down. The rest area was full of other campers and some were making camp fires and cooking their dinners or just having a beer or wine by the fire. We just lay in the van and watched the stars.
